A very happy new year to you, I do hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas break. The children have certainly made an enthusiastic start to their learning this term; there is most definitely a Shakespeare buzz throughout the school!

We are continuing to see positive cases of Covid within school since returning, which have been identified through LFD testing. We recommend that children are tested at least twice a week as many children who have tested positive display no symptoms. Thank you for your ongoing support with this.

a warm welcome to our new senco

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Kate Adcock to the Ferncumbe Family as our new SENCo.

‘My name is Mrs Kate Adcock and I am the new SENCo at The Ferncumbe. I live with my husband, two daughters and dog called Blu. I have been a qualified teacher for 15 years and have been a Senior Leader and SENCO for the past 3 years at a school in Birmingham. I am very excited to be a part of the Ferncumbe family and look forward to meeting you all.

I will be at The Ferncumbe all day on Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings. Please contact the office should you wish to get in touch.’

CLASS PAGES ON OUR SCHOOL WEBSITE

Please do refer to the school website for all the information you need on the learning taking place in classrooms this term. Your child’s class page can be found under the ‘Curriculum’ tab.

Wroxall Class and Clarice Cliff!

Last week, Wroxall Class learnt all about Clarice Cliff, one of the most popular ceramics artists of the 20th Century. We studied her designs and created a success criteria of how best to recreate one of her designs. The class did brilliantly! Mrs Grier didn’t follow the criteria so her first go wasn’t much good, but she got better! We really used our Growth Mindset to keep going and each attempt got better. Everyone should be very proud of their final designs. We may even be able to create our own pottery with her designs on at some point this term!

Haseley class

In Year 1, we have been studying the text ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ by William Shakespeare. So far, we have written love letters, invitations to a masked ball and designed and described our own mask for the party. Have a look at our writing below…

Shrewley Class singing

Yesterday, we had our first singing session with our animateur from Warwickshire Sings. We enjoyed a variety of different singing activities and games and it was a lovely way to wake ourselves up. We will be having weekly sessions for 10 weeks working towards a performance with other Warwickshire schools in the summer term. Watch this space!

Honiley class

This term in Year 2, our topic is "Where Would You Rather Live?" We will be learning about Warwick and beyond. Here are a few examples of some of the things that the children want to learn about this term. Keep your eyes peeled to see what we get up to.

Lowsonford Drama

This week, Year 6 have enjoyed performing a scene from Much Ado About Nothing. They have particularly enjoyed delivering the insults and then writing their own scenes.

Rowington Class

Year 3 have been enjoying learning about Much Ado About Nothing, this week. We decided to create some invitations to Leonato’s Masked Ball during our art lesson and the results were brilliant! Well done Year 3!

ADMISSIONS

A reminder that the closing date for applications to join Reception next September is tomorrow, 15th January 2022.

free warwickshire music choirs for KeY stage 2

I promoted this in the last newsletter, but wanted to send a further reminder that If you have a budding singer in the family then do take advantage of the wonderful opportunity for Key Stage 2 children to become a member of a local choir, along with pupils from other schools. Weekly rehearsals are led by experts in the field and are well worth making the commitment to join!

The most local rehearsals take place in Kenilworth after school on a Wednesday and at KES in Stratford after school on a Thursday. Do follow the link for further details (and indeed details of other musical groups and ensembles which may be of interest)… https://www.warwickshiremusichub.org/join-a-group

CARETAKER AND CLEANER VACANCIES

Unfortunately, due to a lack of applications, we still have caretaker and cleaning vacancies at school. Full details can be found on the school website under ‘Current Vacancies’… https://www.ferncumbefamily.co.uk/current-vacancies

Please do share the details with anyone you think may be interested, or promote on any site you think might be appropriate.

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend,

Tracey Webb, Head of School
