Ferncumbe Friday
friday 17th December 2021
May I take the opportunity of thanking you all for your continued support throughout another challenging term for pupils, staff and parents. Also, a sincere thank you for the many kind messages we have received in recent days - they are truly appreciated and much valued. We have really welcomed your support with the recent, updated guidance from Warwickshire’s Public Health team for the final week of term, which has resulted in last minute changes of plans for some children, and the need for flexibility.
Despite everything, the last two weeks of term have brought a great deal of Christmas excitement to Ferncumbe, evidence of which I’m sure you will have seen on class Twitter pages. I am certain that families will enjoy sharing in the special nativities which were recorded for you this week (details of how to watch will have come home with your child today, or emailed if absent). Your children were amazing in every regard during the recordings; I can absolutely guarantee you will all enjoy watching the performances again and again over the Christmas break!
Land Ahoy!
Last week, Year 6 had to explore how on earth a periscope works… and then create one! We have been studying light and how it travels and the class were set the challenge of trying to see over a solid object using a periscope. Mrs Grier was impressed with their team work, ingenuity and growth mindset, when investigating out how to angle the mirrors. Some pupils even mananged to use the knowledge that a light ray reflects off a surface at the same angle that it strikes it! Fantastic diagrams were drawn, explanations written and EVERYONE in the class got the periscope question right in the End Of Topic Test. What a clever bunch!

SEASON’S TWEETINGS FROM wroxall class!
‘Coming Home’ by Michael Morpurgo is a real favourite in the Eaves household so we shared the story together in Year 5. The children enjoyed finding out about the hard journey the robin experiences to get back to his garden and finds his partner on the bird table. Wroxall Class followed a sequence of steps to create their own sketches of a robin. They then created some cards to take home - their sketches were beautiful, well done!

Further to my email this week, a reminder that we have caretaker and cleaning vacancies at school. Full details can be found on the school website under ‘Current Vacancies’… https://www.ferncumbefamily.co.uk/current-vacancies
Please do share the details with anyone you think may be interested.
Buying your child a new device/piece of technology for christmas?
Lots of things to think about over the next couple of weeks, especially if you are giving the gift of a tablet or gaming console or phone, etc. Setting up the device with good parental controls will enable your child to get the most out of their new ‘toy’ whilst also staying safe whilst accessing the internet and other challenging functions. I have attached some links below to some helpful guidance on making sure your settings are safe and up to date!
I am always happy to discuss issues relating to E-Safety and securing your child’s devices, so please do get in contact if you are interested.
Merry Christmas and Happy Gifting,
