harvest celebrations
Thank you so much for all of the harvest donations brought in just before half-term. The display of produce in each classroom was truly impressive, and provided a wonderful backdrop to the variety of harvest celebrations. I hope you have been able to catch a glimpse of the performances (stories, poems and songs) via the class Twitter pages.
what a blast, Wroxall Class!
What a blast! Year 5 showed great enthusiasm for our Earth and Space topic last half term. They used lots of equipment and practical activities to help them learn and understand the key ideas. The children have used different sized balls to understand the movement of the Earth, Moon and Sun. They have discovered that the Moon orbits the Earth and the Earth orbits the Sun amongst many other facts. Using special moons on a stick, the children have identified and drawn the phases of the moon. We hope you enjoyed seeing the children's 'Solar System in your pocket'. We enjoyed exploring each planet and finding out how many years it would take each planet to orbit the Sun!
Throughout the half term, we have been monitoring how the Sunrise and Sunset change each week. The children have been amazed to see how the hours of daylight have reduced so dramatically since September! We will continue to monitor this throughout the year so we can observe how this continues to change.
The children asked some amazing questions during this topic which has got everyone thinking. Well Done Year 5!

Children in Need - Friday 19th november
In order to raise money for Children in Need this year, School Council pupils have chosen to hold a non-uniform day on Friday 19th November. They are asking students and staff to contribute £1 to support this fundraising event. All proceeds will go towards the Children in Need charity.
Rowington Class
We have been learning all about Hinduism during our RE lessons and as a way of celebrating Diwali (the Hindu festival of light), we have made and decorated our own diva lamps.

LOWSONFORD CLASS
Year 6 have been researching Viking Longships. They have written letters home as if they were a Viking warrior and they have created pictures using different art materials. They initially sketched designs, looked at the landscape of the Viking lands and then created their final piece. The final pieces were so impressive.

Shrewley Class
Year 4 enjoyed a live virtual farm tour yesterday with a LEAF COP26 farming ambassador at Overbury Estate. We learnt about what farmers are doing to help combat climate change and work towards net zero.
Jake Freeman showed us his animals and crops and talked us though the many initiatives to look after the environment. We enjoyed learning about what UK farmers are doing to help combat climate change and are we are keen to be responsible and look after our planet.

England Football - Design the new England mascots
An excellent opportunity for all our Ferncumbe football fans out there! Take a look and get your creative juices flowing. Can you design the winning England team mascot? One for the creative young people amongst you!
CHristmas shoebox appeal
Once again, we will be supporting Helping Hands in Leamington over the festive period by donating boxes of necessities for them to distribute to those in need in our local community. Please see the poster below for details of how you can fill the boxes. The final date that they can be brought into school is on FRIDAY 3RD DECEMBER. If you are unable to make a whole shoebox, but would still like to donate, please send in any items from the list below and we will make up a couple of boxes in school. If you have any spare shoeboxes that you do not need, please send them into school, either to the office or directly to Miss Forbes.
calling all Key Stage 2 budding singers!
This half term we have a new musical opportunity for our enthusiastic singers at Ferncumbe in that there is the chance to join a choir! Local musician Clare Langstone has offered to teach the children some seasonal songs for a performance at the Christingle Service at Holy Trinity on the morning of Sunday 12th December at 10am. If your child is in Years 3 - 6, is a keen singer, and able to commit to attend the performance on the morning of Sunday 12th December, please CONSENT via PAY360 under ‘Events’ ‘Ferncumbe Choir’. An email with the full details has been sent to all KS2 parents this week, but please do contact the school office if any further information is required.
With very best wishes for a lovely weekend,
Tracey Webb, Head of School
