Science week logo design competition

Next term, our biennial Science Week will be held straight after half term from the 28th February, with Spring 1 term homework being allocated to a science project.

In preparation for this action-packed week, I would like to ask the children to create a logo! Just a simple design that links Ferncumbe, science and excitement! The winning design will be used on all the presentations, e-mails, paperwork, reports and certificates for the week, but even more exciting...the winner will be my personal assistant during the science show that kick starts the week!

Designs can be digital or hand drawn, but please, all the child's work.

Please send all entries in to Mrs Grier, via the school office, over this term and I (along with an illustrious panel of experts) will choose a winner!

Thank you,

Peneli Grier

remembrance service

Ferncumbe was well represented by the Cubs and Beavers at St Michael’s, Budbrooke, last Sunday. The children were all super smart and very respectful during the service and at the war graves.

Honiley Class wrote beautiful remembrance poems last week.

Support for your child’s mental and emotional wellbeing

This has been another tough year for many, with COVID still present in our communities and many children and young people experiencing a detrimental impact to their mental health and wellbeing.

As we know the winter months can often be challenging for young people, with the longer nights and colder weather, we wanted to take the opportunity to share the support available in Warwickshire for anyone who might be feeling anxious, depressed, stressed or worried. Even if they don’t feel they can talk to someone they know there is always someone who will listen and who can help.

Online resources

Kooth.com

“I really like how you can share your problems anonymously and have help from others. It makes me feel accepted and that people will not judge me.”

Kooth provides a free, safe and anonymous online community where you can access and contribute helpful articles to their online magazine, join a conversation in the discussion boards, keep a log of how you’re feeling with the daily tracker and chat to one of the team anonymously either through live chat or via message. Some EGG-cellent News!

Happy Fry-day from the Ferncumbe chickens, who have been working EGGxtra hard this week! Our lovely friends have laid their first eggs, which is incredibly EGGciting, don’t you think? The first egg was found by our EGGspert chicken helpers, Isla and Merryn (in Year 6 and 4) and the second, by Elliot & Felix (in Year 1 & 2). We are over the moon and can’t wait for the rest to start laying!

Honiley Class

Miss Constable has been so impressed with the wonderful creative homework that has been completed at home! The children have been given a variety of tasks such linked to their topic. The children have fully immersed themselves in all things Victorian!

The children have been designing their own sweets, constructing flying machines, creating a timeline to show how they've changed and researching Victorian food. We've even had some children making a Victoria sponge to share in class.

Thank you to all of the parents who are helping their children at home!

Rowington Class

In light of Anti-Bullying Week we have thought about out ‘one kind word’. We spent our Jigsaw lesson discussing bullying and the strategies we can use to combat it.

Last week, we were learning about square and cube numbers in year 6. We worked in groups to make squared and cube numbers using multilink.

calling all budding KS2 actors!

Vicky is the marketing manager of Spa Theatre Juniors, a Junior Musical Theatre Company (also a registered Charity: 1092861) which delivers a fantastic show at a local theatre each year. She has asked me to pass on the following opportunity for your child/ren.

The theatre are putting on Disney’s The Little Mermaid next May and are currently auditioning for a cast. They are a teaching organisation which teaches acting, singing and dance, helping young people to develop confidence and life skills. They are looking for budding young actors between the ages of 8 and 17. Any potentially interested pupils and their parents/carers are asked to get in touch by emailing Anoushka.sheehan@spatheatre.com or visiting the website www.spatheatre.com .

Their mission is to enable children aged 8 - 17 to learn new skills and develop their talents in the performing arts, whilst giving them the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre and experience the true ‘spit and sawdust’ of a real live production.

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend,
