School Opening Update

I hope this finds you and your families fit and well. The past few weeks have continued to be interesting and challenging in many ways, but what I can say is how heartened I have been by the amazing things you have been achieving at home; from raising large sums of money for worthy charities to the creative ways you have interpreted the Home Learning. So I thank you for supporting my personal well-being by cheering me up every day with the learning you have been doing at home with your children.

I thought I would share with you how the wider opening of Ferncumbe has gone. Alongside our key worker children, we have successfully welcomed back Year 1 and Reception with Year 6 starting next week. It has been lovely to see all of their smiling faces as we greet the children each morning. The Drop and Go is working well, now that Severn Trent have re-opened the Hockley Road!

The staff and I are so pleased to see the high numbers of you who have made that difficult decision to send your child/ren back to school. We are working to make this a very positive experience for all, with well-being at the top of our priority list.

As our slow and cautious approach to wider opening has so far been successful and positive for both staff and children I am now considering the next steps. To invite another year group back into school I have to consider the logistics and risks of having more children on site, along with meeting the needs of our ever growing numbers of key worker children. My current thinking is to invite all Year 3 children back for either week 4 or 5 of this half term. However, I am currently unable to confirm this, but will notify you as soon as definite plans are in place.

It continues to be my aspiration to bring every child back into school for at least 1 day so that they can have closure for this year and prepare them for September. This of course relies on staff remaining fit and well.

Indications are that September will bring a continued blend of in-school and home learning, but we await clarification and guidance.

I am sure you will join me in thanking all of the staff for their continued support and for making Ferncumbe the happiest and safest environment it can possibly be.

God Bless

I’d like to reiterate Miss Morris’ message above and say how uplifting it has been. personally, to hear about and see the breadth and variety of home learning that is continuing to take place during this most challenging of times. The support and guidance you are providing for your children’s learning is inspiring.

I know that all staff will want to join me in thanking you for your continued messages of support , which are truly appreciated.
