school lunches update
We are delighted to let you know that from September all children in school who have school lunches will be offered the opportunity to select their daily hot meal from a choice of 2 options - these will be the red and green options on the 'Educaterers' menu. The children will make their choice every morning after the register is taken.
Additionally, during the second half of this Summer term (and during the transition phase), Key Stage 2 children (Years 3, 4 5 and 6) who have school lunches will trial the daily option of a 'Deli bag', a nutritious alternative to packed lunches from home. Further details of the current school menu and 'Deli bag' contents can be found here, by clicking on the following link and scrolling to the bottom of the page...
https://educaterers.co.uk/who-we-feed/primary
As the 'Deli-bag' content varies on a daily basis, we do ask parents of children in KS2 to discuss hot lunch (red choice) and 'Deli-bag' options with their children, so that they are prepared to make their selection daily after half-term.
We thank parents and all children in school (via School Council) for their valuable feedback concerning school lunches, and do hope that the changes will prove positive for everyone.
update from gardening club
The Ferncumbe Sunflower Challenge is well under way. A number of children planted their sunflowers two weeks ago and today the After School Gardening Club measured and logged their progress. I can reveal that there is currently little between the top three!
Today we have launched a new competition in Class 2 called 'Tomatoes are us'. Five groups of children have chosen a different tomato to grow to see which is most successful and of course there will be a tasting test when all fruits are ready and as long as there are no allergies to tomatoes? If we are really lucky we may have some lovely plants ready for sale at the Summer Fair. So watch this space for news of the Tigerettes, Fierce Gardeners, Tomato Power, Golden Epic Team and the Hammer Sharks (children's choice of names).
First produce of 2018 sown, grown, picked, washed & tested today - Radishes!
The enthusiasm the children show in the garden is infectious and a pleasure to see. We hope that what they learn with us stands them in good stead for the future not just in the garden but making choices with vegetables, experimenting with flavours and looking after the planet.
Keep digging Ferncumbe; you're doing a great job!!

update from Friends
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’d like to extend a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who joined us for our very first Friends of Ferncumbe Spring Ball and made the night such a huge success. The support from parents, family, friends and teachers was incredible, not to mention a number of local companies who donated money, including our sponsor for the night, Arrundale Financial Planning. With everyone’s support we have raised over £5,520….so far!
Our very own Heather Tait (Wildflower Studio) was our official Ball Photographer and took some absolutely beautiful shots. A further donation will be contributed to the grand total for every photograph sold. Details of how to view and buy photos have been sent to those who attended on the night, so do go and take a look. If you haven’t received details, please email us at thefriendsofferncumbe@gmail.com.
In the meantime, here are a few photos from the evening that we wanted to share with everyone.
Thank you again. The money raised will make a huge difference, going towards replacing old and worn out IT equipment at school.
message from the governors
Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to respond to the recent questionnaire. We are in the process of reviewing all the feedback and will be reporting back with an overview in the second half of term.
