Ferncumbe Friday

Friday 26th January 2024

Thank you!

You will no doubt be aware that we have had an OFSTED 2-day inspection this week. This was an ungraded inspection carried out under section 8 of the Education Act 2005, with the intention of finding out if Ferncumbe continues to be a ‘Good School’, following its previous inspections. I would personally like to thank you, your children, staff, governors, and the whole school community for the ongoing support, feedback and kind words throughout the two days. I look forward to being able to share the report with you all in the coming weeks. Please be assured that as soon as it is available I will inform you.

We were delighted to receive two letters this week from Damian Hinds, Minister for Schools, in recognition of Ferncumbe’s outstanding achievement in the 2023 Phonics Screening Check and Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check. 96% of our Year 1 children met the expected standard in the check, putting us in the top 4% of primary schools in the country. Additionally, with an average pupil score of 24.3 out of 25 in the Multiplication Check our results were in the top 200 schools in England.

Huge and well-deserved congratulations to our wonderful pupils and committed staff!

Logo Competition!

I have had some brilliant logo entries already! Please keep them coming in. I have no idea how I will ever choose a winning design, but thank you so much to all the children who are having a go, getting creative and helping us to warm up towards this year’s Science Week. Please can I remind all parents to pay the £3 contribution towards funding the event. Thank you!

Mrs Grier.

A Fantastic Birdwatch!

Wroxall class outdid themselves yesterday, keeping focussed and determined to find as many birds as they could for the full hour. We saw robins, starlings, crows, many pigeons and jackdaws, collared doves, a chaffinch, blue tits, great tits and a busy little Ferncumbe wren. I was amazed and incredibly grateful for a donation from one of our parents, of ten pairs of brand new binoculars for the class! Our rather tired set has had a most welcome top up, ensuring many bird watches to come. Thank you to the parents who accompanied us as well. We entered our data for the RSPB whilst polishing off some biscuits.

Rowington Class

This week in Art, Year 3 have been looking at joining materials using different methods and turning 2D shapes into 3D shapes. We persevered and made some interesting creations inspired by Anthony Caro’s structures.

The Ferncumbe News is the parish magazine for the churches and villages of Beausale, Haseley, Hatton, Hatton Park, Honiley, Lowsonford, Rowington, Shrewley & Wroxall. The Ferncumbe Team’s aim is to offer content of interest to all sections of the community, so that you can find church services, village hall events, cricket matches, social events, bell ringing, puzzles, markets, quizzes, featured charities and news from the parish councils. All in one place. Plus local history, wildlife reports and many other items of general interest.

We’re keen to include content offered by as wide a range of people as possible, and would love to have fun photos/drawings/poems sent to us by children of the parish. We’d love to hear from parents too, if there is a story or item that you would like to bring to general attention. Or indeed you might want to advertise your business with us - those small adverts have worked very well over the years!
