A letter from the mayor of warwick!
Children in Honiley Class wrote letters to the Mayor of Warwick to discuss the plastic problem we have with our oceans. The children suggested that more needs to be done in Warwick to help people recycle plastic. The Mayor was so impressed that he wrote back to the class and would like to arrange a visit to hear more about their ideas!
inspired by nature writing competition
At Ferncumbe, we use The Natural Curriculum for some of our grammar lessons and the children love learning grammar when it's linked to a brilliant BBC Wildlife clip. The website has launched a writing competition, open to years 3 to 6 that the children might like to enter at home. The winning pupil will have their creative writing published on the Natural Curriculum website and will win £500 for their school to spend on laptops or tablets!
The idea is to use one of the suggested BBC’s natural history clips as a basis for a piece of creative writing.

Good Luck!
Mrs Grier
bikeability
Over the last couple of weeks, Year 6 have enjoyed their Bikeability sessions, which they had in small groups over several days. They persevered, despite the cold and occasional rain, and were delighted with their badges and certificates. Well done Lowsonford!
Mrs Brown
Castles, moats and boats
Year 1 have been very lucky this half term having Mrs Brown in to share her creative talents. To support our learning in History, we have been making castles out of cereal boxes with a working drawbridge, a portcullis and we even cut out battlements across the top. Pictures of our finished castles will follow soon!
This week, Mrs Brown taught us to make paper boats using origami techniques. We then tried to make our boats float on water. What a load of fun!
roblox concerns
In school, we are hearing of some issues with the online game Roblox. We have spoken to the children with concerns, but most of it comes down to children playing with people they don’t know or trading ‘pets’, etc. Please find a ‘Roblox Guide for Parents’ below. If you have any concerns, or would like more information or advice, please do reach out to me through the school office.
Miss Forbes
message from children’s commisioner for england
Last month the largest survey ever of children in England was launched, “The Big Ask”. The views and experiences children share through “The Big Ask” will help to shape the forthcoming Childhood Commission, which will set out plans for how children are ensured to be at the heart of rebuilding after the pandemic.
Thousands of children cross the country have already taken part and completed the survey online. Please do let your child’s voice be heard by following the link and guiding them to complete the survey… https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigask/#msdynttrid=OuQ-7YUaL0u2Stp2xqrXcjI3P5pXnnXsHaOYJnY3fZo
The deadline has been extended to 28th May to make sure that nobody misses out.
With very best wishes for a lovely weekend,
