Do look out for your child’s school report which will be coming home today. Children in years 1 - 6 will also be bringing home their progress folders which will include this academic year’s assessments.
We encourage you to complete the reply slip enclosed with your child’s report and return to school, please.
a message from the friends of ferncumbe’s co-chair and co-secretary
After five years on the committee and two years holding the posts of Co-Chair and Co-Secretary, it's time for us to take a step back. The Friends of Ferncumbe AGM will take place on Tuesday 20th September 2022 and we need to identify a new Chair and Secretary for the charity to continue to run. Could you take on one of these roles, or perhaps share a role with a fellow parent?
Key responsibilities for the Chair include:
- working closely with the Treasurer to oversee the financial management of the charity
- liaising with school regarding events and allocation of funds
- planning events
- delegating tasks across the committee
- seeking support from external organisations
- co-ordinating volunteers
- chairing a half-termly meeting
Key activities for the Secretary include:
- preparing the agenda and minutes for the half termly meeting
- managing the inbox
- preparing communications such as social media posts and newsletter items
It has been incredibly rewarding to work with a committed group of parent and staff volunteers to run successful events over the years. Collectively we've found ways to fundraise despite the pandemic and have introduced new events to complement some of the longstanding traditional ones. We are glad to have been able to work with school to support new opportunities and purchase resources for the children.
We will both be available to support whoever takes on these roles and will provide a full handover. We would be happy to talk to anyone who might be interested in finding out more about what's involved. Please comment below or email us at thefriendsofferncumbe@gmail.com if you would like an informal chat about either of the roles.
Thanks,
Michelle Cresswell & Emma Lessard
We are so looking forward to welcoming you to Sports Day on Friday 8th July. KS2 will hold their races in the morning and Reception/KS1 in the afternoon. Details regarding timings of open classrooms on the day are included with your child’s annual report.
Children should come to school in their PE kit.
We would love families to join us on the school field at lunchtime for a picnic with their child/ren. Deli bags will be available for children who would normally have a school lunch. The office will be in touch regarding the uptake of a school lunch on the day as we know that some parents prefer to provide their own picnic for their child. This is an obvious assumption, but please do not bring any alcohol onto the school grounds.
We, and the local community, would very much appreciate it if you could park respectfully and safely on the day. We understand and appreciate how busy it is around the site during whole school events so have split the event this year with the aim that parking is eased slightly at various points throughout the day. Local residents have asked that you do not block driveways or park near to exits which make it dangerous for them to enter and leave their homes safely.

A word of caution to our Ferncumbe Family! Evil Pea, from the story Supertato is on the loose! He came into Year 2 and stuck fruit on Miss Constable's whiteboard! Year 2 were horrified. The children have written WANTED posters and newspaper articles to warn everyone about this despicable pea. Keep your eyes peeled everyone!

Lowsonford
Year 6 had the most AMAZING time away recently on their residential trip. They worked on developing their team work, resilience, independence and perseverance and they certainly all developed these skills. From making their own beds, tidying rooms and making their own lunches to abseiling, rock climbing, kayaking and walking the Malvern hills, the trip really was fun-filled, adventurous and exhausting! Thank you Lowsonford - you were all brilliant to spend time away with!

This week, Year 3 have created their own Greek columns using clay. We first looked at the purpose of columns which led to us sketching our own and focusing on the detail of some of the columns. We then sculpted our own using our hands and tools to add detail. I think we can all agree that they have turned out great, well-done Year 3!

Year 1 have been going swimming with school for the past 5 weeks and I wanted to say how incredibly proud I am of their determination and perseverance. So many children have moved up a group or are now swimming both on their fronts and backs without armbands for the first time. A few children even managed to swim almost 25m this week. We have one more week left and I cannot wait to see what Year 1 achieve.

Shrewley Singing
Last Thursday, a group of Year 4 pupils represented the class at the Warwickshire Sings Celebration Concert held at Warwick Arts Centre. The class have been very fortunate to have regular singing sessions as part of the Warwickshire Sings programme and we have enjoyed learning a great variety of songs as well as learning about reading rhythms and pitch.
Hundreds of pupils from across Warwickshire performed in the concert and the Year 4 pupils gave a great performance and very much enjoyed the special occasion. Well done everyone!
