Ferncumbe Friday
Friday 13th January 2023
A very happy new year to you, I do hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas break. The children have certainly made an enthusiastic start to their learning this term; there is most definitely a Shakespeare buzz throughout the school!
As mentioned in the last newsletter we have a few additional staff changes in school from the beginning of January; Pauline Bibb, Katy Jones, Dannielle Hover and Owen Jones are welcomed to the Ferncumbe team as Learning Support Assistants.

drop-off and collection reminder
To ensure a more smooth and speedy drop-off each morning we ask that children are seated in the back of the car if possible, with their coats on and bags to hand. This makes things much easier for staff greeting the children and may also result in less of a backlog of cars waiting. A reminder that you are able to drop your child/ren off from 8.30am. The road gets very busy from 8.40am.
Please also make every effort to park safely and respectfully of neighbours when collecting your child/ren at the end of the school day, particularly avoiding parking on yellow lines.
Lunchtime Clubs
We are always looking for opportunities to connect with our pupils, widen their interests and support them to build friendships. One of the ways we will do this in the Spring term is by running lunchtime clubs. Every day a member of staff is facilitating a club with an open invitation to every child. Here is the timetable and we hope you will encourage your children to come along.
On Wednesday morning Key Stage 2 pupils shared an assembly on Autism with Mrs Reid. The focus was on tolerance, understanding and the celebration of neurodiversity.
Coding club
Years 3-6 pupils from Ferncumbe have been invited to attend the Coding Club at Myton School. The sessions run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.30-7.30pm. It’s great for those who have a keen interest in computing and want to see what big school is all about!

Honiley Class
This week in Year 2, we have been doing some super writing in our Literacy lessons! We have been learning about the Shakespearean play ‘Twelfth Night’ and have written some amazing love letters. Miss Constable was so impressed with our descriptive language. What a great start to the 2023 Year 2! Keep it up!
Miss Constable
Haseley Class
Year 1 are so lucky to have Kieron Howe working with them for music this term. So far, we have explored a range of percussion instruments to accompany our singing and have just started learning about djembe drums. We will update you on our progress!
Miss Forbes
Shrewley Class
Year 4 have been enjoying learning about Twelfth Night since returning to school. We have gained a really good understanding of the plot and the many different characters. We retold the story using drama and much humour! We also created a class map of Illyria and used this to help us write some super diary entries from Viola’s perspective when she finds herself shipwrecked there. At the end of this week, we have been researching the life of Shakespeare and are writing our own biographies about him. Learning about Twelfth Night has also inspired us to read lots of other Shakespeare stories!
Miss Reid
With very best wishes for a lovely weekend,
