Despite the enormous challenges that we all currently face, school life at Ferncumbe continues to be very busy and lots of fun for the children. With plenty still to look forward to before the end of term, including a whole school ‘Fun Day’ arranged by Friends of Ferncumbe (details above) on Friday 16th July, training sessions run by Edgbaston cricket coaches, a visit to school by the former Mayor of Warwick and for Year 6 their much anticipated ‘Grow a Pound’ afternoon and Willow Weaving workshop, below are just a few of the events which have taken place over the past couple of weeks.

rowington’s trip to the Birmingham botanical gardens and glasshouses

Rowington Class had a fantastic day exploring the glass houses at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens to support our topic of plants in science. We got to experience the Tropical, Sub Tropical, Mediterranean and Arid glass houses and the variety of plants found in these different climates. We were lucky to also be able to handle some tropical animals, such as a giant snail, corn snakes and stick insects. The children enjoyed sketching and learning about the different plants and the range of uses they have.

living like vikings at compton verney!

Lowsonford Class had a wonderful day at Compton Verney last Friday, learning how the Vikings lived. We made bread flour, created our own long houses, learned how the Vikings started a fire, made a wattle and daub barrier and played a game of Kingy Bats. We displayed amazing teamwork during the day. Huge thanks to our wonderful team of adults who came with us and became the “slaves” for the day.

Shrewley visit the habitat survival trust

Last week, Shrewley Class visited the Habitat Survival Trust in Henley-In-Arden as part of our Rivers topic. We went on a fascinating wildlife walk, where we spotted signs of mammals, identified insects, rare orchids and lots of spiders. We learnt about the different birds and bats that inhabit the woodland and we even stood close to a deer for what seemed like minutes! After a brilliant talk by their bat expert, where we learnt such a lot, we eventually climbed in to dam the river Alne - an exercise in teamwork and resilience. A wonderful time was had by all and we cannot thank the HST enough for once again hosting us so well.

End of year reports and progress folders

Do look out for your child’s school report which will be coming home at the end of next week, on Friday 9th July. Children in years 1 - 6 will also be bringing home their progress folders which will include this academic year’s assessments.

september 2021 teaching organisation

You will have received an email after school this afternoon from the school office outlining staffing changes and class teachers for September 2021. Please do get in touch with the office on Monday if you are haven’t received it.

3 weekly lunch menu from Autumn term 2021

For your reference, below is the ‘Educaterers’ 3 weekly menu with commencing dates. Please note that we will be additionally offering the deli-bag option to a hot meal during the first half of the Autumn term, rather than a jacket potato. We will then revert to a jacket potato with a choice of filling for the second half of the Autumn term.

It is really helpful if you discuss with your child the red hot meal option (or green if they are vegetarian) so they are well informed before making their daily choice!
