see you all on monday 8th march!

I am over the moon to be able to welcome back to school all of our children on Monday 8th March. Staff are so excited to finally have a date when they will see classes back together again and are already busy planning a range of activities, including plenty of social time to catch up on events of the past couple of months - the opportunity for the children to reconnect with each other will be so important.

Our school plan is to revert to the successful systems that were in place during the Autumn term. The updated whole school Risk Assessment will be uploaded to the school website next week, prior to children returning on 8th March. All members of the staff team, including outside providers, continue to be tested twice a week as the safety and wellbeing of all remains a top priority.

You will have received a letter via email today which includes a reminder of staggered start and finish times to the school day. If you are bringing your child to school please do refresh your memory of your child’s slot, as this will facilitate a more safe and streamlined approach to pick up and drop off.

The following is a link to the recently updated guidance from the Department for Education for parents and carers, with specific information on the return of all children to school on Monday 8th March… https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/what-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak/what-parents-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-during-covid-19

Your continued support is much appreciated by us all,

Tracey Webb

anti bullying ambassador training

This week Year 5s at home and at school began to learn how to become anti bullying ambassadors. With training from The Diana Award they were able to learn about the signs of bullying, the impact it can have and gained some top tips about what to do if they or their friends found themselves being bullied. The children showed a great depth of understanding and everyone enthusiastically engaged in the training. In the Summer term Year 5 will be able to put their training into action with lots of new initiatives to make Ferncumbe an even happier place to be!

baby news

I am delighted to share with you the exciting news that Mrs Mackintosh is expecting a baby in June. She will begin her maternity leave shortly after the Easter holidays and we will be in touch with Reception parents very soon regarding arrangements for her maternity cover. I am sure you will understand that Mrs Mackintosh will need to be extra vigilant with regard to social distancing when school re-opens fully, and will discuss this with the children.

In other baby news, Miss Grubb welcomed Oscar William in to the world last month. As you can see, both mother and baby are doing exceptionally well!

get singing to improve wellbeing

Singing is known to dramatically improve wellbeing – something that we're aware that everyone needs at this very difficult time.

To help, Warwickshire Choristers have put together a series of weekly 15-minute singing workshops designed for KS2 pupils to enjoy. The workshops are self-contained and can be easily accessed for use at home by following the link… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsBiHHhvXr4

ferncumbe’s Fantastic Fundraisers!

Capture2.JPG

Following hot on the heels of William’s (Year 3) extraordinary running achievement last month and amazing fundraising efforts, Holly in Year 2 has been very busy herself over half term, having set a target to do 100 cartwheels a day to raise money for charity. She also used her learning from maths to record her cartwheels using a tally chart.

All school staff are incredibly proud of both children and I include the following links to their fundraising pages.

A final thought from Captain Sir Tom Moore (1920 - 2021) …

‘For all those people who are finding it difficult at the moment, the sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away.’

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend - it looks set to be a bright and sunny one!
