HARVEST FESTIVAL

A reminder that our school Harvest Festival will take place at Holy Trinity Church on Monday 14th October at 9.15 am. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer an open invitation to all parents due to numbers. However, as it is Reception’s first visit to Church, Hatton Class parents are welcome to come and watch their child’s debut performance - there will be standing room only, available at the back.

Children are requested to bring dried food/packets/tins to school on the 14th October, which will then be donated to Warwick and Leamington Foodbank. Here is a list of items that are frequently requested:

Longlife Milk

Instant noodles

Tinned spaghetti

Tinned vegetables

Steamed puddings

Loo rolls

Children will carry some of these items to Church. As in the past, we also ask that a coin is sellotaped to the top and any money donated given to charity. School Council will decide on the charity receiving the donation and you will be informed in due course of their decision and the amount raised.

harvest service Sunday 13th october

Some children from school have volunteered to attend and represent Ferncumbe at the Harvest Service at church this Sunday, along with Mrs Reid. Do pop along if you are able - the service begins at 10am.

honiley class agility morning at the kingsley school

On Wednesday, Honiley class took part in an exciting agility morning at Kingsley School. They had a great time and took part in lots of different activities. The following are some thoughts from the children.

Lois – I loved the running because I had to work in a team.

Jakob – I loved everything and we got to use the javelins.

Nancy – I really enjoyed jumping over the yellow line and counting how many time I could do it for in 20 seconds.

William F – I enjoyed the last running race.

Tiggy – We had to throw the bean bags into the hoops and some were worth more points if they were far away.

Lewis – I enjoyed throwing the javelins and seeing how far it would travel, but the wind didn’t help!

Imogen – I liked playing Simon says when we waited for the next game.

Many thanks to Mr Bladon and Mrs Bond who attended the trip with the children.

lowsonford and wroxall classes go to the theatre!

thumbnail_IMG_1284.jpg

Last week, children from Lowsonford and Wroxall classes visited the RSC to see a production of 'The Merchant of Venice'. The children were fascinated even before the performance began as it was staged in the Swan Theatre, which is built like a traditional Shakespearean theatre. Also, the cast were changing and waiting around the edge of the theatre in full view. It was an entertaining performance with some comedy characters, whilst managing to keep the seriousness of the key messages.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, even if they didn't fully understand the Shakespearean language! Thanks to all those who accompanied us on the trip, we all had a great time!

lowonford class present to the women’s institute

On Wednesday 9th October, six Year 6 pupils attended a Women's Institute event at Rowington Village Hall called 'Water for all?'. After enjoying a fascinating talk from Water Aid, the pupils then gave their own presentation about sanitation around the world and the awful statistic that over 2 million people still do not have access to a toilet of any kind. They then went on to talk about the possible solutions to this problem and the kinds of projects and goals that are being put in place, to reach the UN's 6th Sustainable Goal of clean water and sanitation for all.

The ladies (and one gentleman!) were so impressed. The pupils were loud, clear, expressive and even raised a few laughs at the right moments! Mrs Grier was very proud and the pupils should be congratulated on a fantastic presentation in very unfamiliar surroundings.

message from the chair of governors

I am sure that my colleague Governors would want to publicly acknowledge the challenges for the children and staff this term, with all of the building works and the disruption that is causing. I would like to thank them and you as parents for your patience. I understand everything remains on plan for completion by Christmas and fingers crossed, it will not take long into the Spring Term to have forgotten this disruption and everyone enjoying the improvements.
The Governors meet next week for the first time this term and I will aim to update you on our discussions in the newsletter just before Half Term.

David Lane

With very best wishes for a lovely weekend,
