The children were spellbound by the expert performance and variety of recorders played!

Years 1-6 were treated to the most wonderful live music concert last week when Palisander, a highly regarded recorder ensemble, visited Ferncumbe. The children learnt about the range of different recorders and were treated to a wide variety of music, including Baroque, Renaissance and a more modern style.

How times have changed!

On Monday 18th November, Honiley Class became time travellers when they visited St John’s House Museum and took part in a Victorian classroom experience. The children dressed the part (as did the adults), took part in a writing lesson with slate and even had a reading lesson. They then completed a drill outside. The class have enjoyed sharing differences between education then and now, especially when they received a letter from Miss Morris stating that she wanted to go back to Victorian rules and routines!

yoga enrichment

During a session of Yoga this week, which is one of our Key Stage 2 Enrichment activities, some children spent time creating their own natural mandalas. The yoga teacher reported that the children worked together and how lovely it was to see them carefully choosing the resources outside and created ideas as a team. Some of the children were even inspired to go home and create another one.

A pupil from Year 3 said he enjoyed the session and commented, ‘It’s mindfulness, really colourful and not artificial. It helps you relax and brings you into your mind, feeling warm and calm.’

Below are a selection of the natural creations, which I thought you might like to see.

A reminder that the final date for bringing shoeboxes to school, which will then be delivered to ‘Helping Hands’ in Leamington, is Monday 2nd December. Thank you for all the shoeboxes which have come in so far!

christmas jumper day

Christmas-Jumper-Day-square.jpg

We will be taking part in the national ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ on Friday 13th December 2019. Pupils are invited to wear a Christmas or Winter themed top to school, with their normal school skirt or trousers. Please don’t feel it necessary to go out and buy a new top - a home decorated one is absolutely fine!

Crisp Packet Recycling at ferncumbe

Capture.JPG

At Ferncumbe, we are still collecting crisp packets in the dining hall and Wroxall classroom. These are sent, via the Terracycle scheme, for recycling. We are not a national collection point, but have recently joined up with Warwick Town Council who will now send our crisp packets on. By doing this, they earn points for the charities that the Mayor supports, so there is a two-fold benefit for bringing your packets into school! As the festive season inevitably leads to more snacking, please take the time to store your packets, flattened and bring them in to school at any time. Thank you for your support.

free school meals applications

Warwickshire County Council is committed to supporting families to use the online services available on their website. Applying for Free School Meals is a core service, and as there was a change of providers in early Spring, you must now log in to the Parent Portal in order to make an application.

WCC have asked schools to advise their parents to apply online using the following link www.warwickshire.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals or by phone via the customer service centre on 01926 359189.

These methods of application are quick, easy and allow you to utilise your existing account set up initially to apply for a school place.
