Ferncumbe Friday
Friday 21st September 2018
‘Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside!’
Thank you so much to one of our parents, Mrs Russell, who has transformed our school sheds (which contain PE and playground equipment) into a stunning set of beach huts. The children have been so excited to see them taking shape - they look fantastic!
School Council Meeting
Our new School Council representatives have been elected and held their first meeting of the new academic year last Tuesday. Year 6 comprise the committee (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Publicity Officer and Treasurer) and there are also elected members from each class. School Council is of high priority in school and one of the means by which pupils’ ideas, comments and suggestions are clearly heard. Meetings are held fortnightly and at this week's meeting, amongst other things, children discussed expectations of their new role, ideas for Movie Night and nominations for which charity school is looking to support this year. Please do have a look at the School Council notice board in the corridor for further information, the upkeep of which is maintained by the children.
does your child enjoy singing?
We were delighted to welcome Oliver Hancock, Director of Music at St Mary’s Church in Warwick, to our singing worship last Wednesday. He visited Ferncumbe looking to recruit children in Years 3-6 to become choristers. Ferncumbe have had several choristers join St. Mary’s over the past few years and it would be fantastic to keep up this tradition. Mr Hancock led pupils in some enthusiastic singing and any children interested in joining will have brought leaflets and letters home this week. Please do contact the school if you would like further details.

Friends of Ferncumbe
The Friends of Ferncumbe celebrated the start of the new school year last week with their annual BBQ evening. We were delighted to see so many families join us from across the school, as well as welcoming the new members of the Reception family. It was also lovely to see so many of our previous students come back to enjoy the evening with us. A great night was had by all and we raised around £670, which is fantastic. As always, the money we raised goes towards supporting everyday life for our school and pupils, so a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along to support us.
One of our first areas of funding in the 2018/19 Academic Year is going to our much-loved Forest School. We have donated £500 for them to source new kit and equipment. From new waterproofs through to new storm kettles for the all-important hot chocolate at the end of every session, the Forest School Team have done an excellent job making great use of their new funding.
Don’t forget, the Friends of Ferncumbe AGM is being held on 3rd October from 8pm at The Falcon pub. All parents and carers are very welcome to join us. As well as looking at what the Friends of Ferncumbe have achieved in the past year and how we have helped the school, we will be voting on new Committee Members. If you would be interested in becoming our new Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary*, or if you just want to find out more about what we do and help out on the Committee, we would be delighted to see you there.
Many thanks,
The Friends of Ferncumbe.
*If you would like any more detail about what each of these specific roles entails, please contact Tamson Lepper for more information.
