RSPB Big Schools Bird Watch
Year 5 took part in the RSPB Birdwatch on 15th February, on a cold, windy and very wet day! Dressed up against the cold, we had a practice run, where we checked the binoculars and built our confidence in bird identification.
We completed the hour-long observation and managed to spot and identify 12 species in total! This was many more than we were expecting, due to the unfavourable conditions. Without a word of complaint the pupils fully embraced the task and enjoyed learning all about our common garden birds. Wood pigeon and carrion crow were the two birds we saw in the greatest numbers, but dunnock, robin, wren and thrush were other species we were excited to spot. We have submitted our data and have therefore contributed to the UK-wide picture showing the health of our garden birds in 2017 - Well done Year 5!
